Can You Guess If These 10 Pregnancy Myths Are True or False?

Mamas, we’re sure you’ve heard a lot of pregnancy advice… from books to blogs to relatives to strangers, there sure is a lot of information out there! But do you know how much of it is really true?

Try this quiz and see if you can sort the facts from the fiction - the results may surprise you!

1. You can tell a baby’s sex from its position in the womb. (If you’re carrying high, it’s a girl)

1. True
2. False

You’re more likely to be carrying high if it’s your first pregnancy - but that’s the only thing carrying high will tell you. And how round your bump is won’t reveal your baby’s gender, either!

2. Exercising while you’re pregnant can hurt your baby

1. True
2. False

Low-impact exercise while you’re pregnant is safe and healthy, for your body and your baby. It keeps your core strong, helps you sleeps better and may reduce your risk of complications.

Two of our favorite workouts are this 28 minute cardio session and this 20 minute yoga sequence for bone strength. Give them a try!

3. If you eat lots of vegetables while you’re pregnant, your baby is more likely to love them later

1. True
2. False

Babies are more likely to prefer vegetables if their mamas ate plenty during pregnancy (according to scientists). That’s because the foods you eat while pregnant flavor the amniotic fluid your little one is growing in, so they learn to love the taste .

4. Eating chocolate during pregnancy is actually good for you

1. True
2. False

Chocolate can decrease your risk of preeclampsia and help your placenta function better (according to a recent study). Which is good news for mamas with chocolate cravings!

5. Eating spicy foods can cause early labor

1. True
2. False

The only thing spicy foods can cause is heartburn (if you’re not used to eating them). So if you’re a fan of spicy foods, carrying on eating curry!

6. Touching your cat during pregnancy can be dangerous for your baby’s health

1. True
2. False

Petting your cat during pregnancy won’t harm your baby - you won’t catch any diseases from your kitty’s fur! But you should avoid handling cat litter, as touching cat poop can increase your risk of contracting a harmful disease called toxoplasmosis.

7. Sleeping on your left side while you’re pregnant is best for your baby

1. True
2. False

Sleep on your left side, sleep on your right side, sleep in whatever position will help you get some rest! They’re all just as good as each other. And there’s no need to avoid sleeping on your back either, that’s another myth.

8. If you have heartburn during your pregnancy, you’re more likely to have a baby with a full head of hair.

1. True
2. False

Mamas who have moderate to severe heartburn during pregnancy are more likely to have babies with full heads of hair, according to one research study from Johns Hopkins.

9. Being pregnant makes you more forgetful

1. True
2. False

You’re more likely to forget things while pregnant, especially during your second and third trimester. Scientists think it’s because the increased levels of hormones in your body affect your brain, causing “momnesia”.

10. Flying during your first or last trimester is dangerous

1. True
2. False

There’s no evidence flying during pregnancy is dangerous - you can fly whenever you like! Be careful if your due date is close though, some airlines won’t let you on board just in case you give birth on the plane.
